🚀 Becoming the #1 Food Delivery Service

It's 7 pm, you're hungry, and the fridge is empty.

For more than 37M customers, this is a sign to order from DoorDash.

When it launched in 2013, DoorDash wasn’t the first food delivery service. Still, it dominates today with a 67% market share in the U.S.

How’d they do it? Was it by filling the gap for restaurants that couldn’t provide their own delivery services? The DashPass Subscription service? Or maybe their attention to customer experience?

Here’s what we got for ya:

🧠 The Story Behind DoorDash

DoorDash started in San Francisco when four Stanford students—Tony Xu, Stanley Tang, Andy Fang, and Evan Moore—came together to solve a problem in the food industry.

Many popular local restaurants offered excellent food but lacked the resources or desire to do delivery.

Their idea was simple: create a platform that connects these restaurants with a network of drivers. It's not only great for customers but also allows restaurants to focus on cooking rather than delivery logistics.

Their original business was a website called "PaloAltoDelivery.com," which they tested by delivering orders themselves.

The students quickly realized the potential of their idea as orders started rolling in, so they rebranded as DoorDash and expanded their operations beyond Palo Alto.

By 2016, DoorDash cemented itself as the leader in the food delivery industry in the U.S. Since then, its market share has only grown.

How exactly does Doordash differentiate itself from the competition?

No one in the crypto industry wants to admit this, but most retail traders lose money.

While those late to the party finally get in, project founders, VCs and early investors sell their bags for millions.

That said, there are still hundreds of tokens with 10X potential, you just need to find the right ones.

Crypto is an alpha-driven industry, where those who are early gain outsized returns, often for FREE via airdrops.

🔑 Innovation is Key

It’s Newton’s First Law of Motion: A business in motion stays in motion. The worst thing you can do for your company is to stop innovating and improving.

Here are 5 ways DoorDash has kept its business moving:

#1- Cyclists: In urban cities, using cyclists for deliveries helps DoorDash beat traffic and cut delivery times. It also allows non car owners to deliver.

#2- DashPass: For $9.99/month, this subscription service gives customers unlimited deliveries with no fee. With over 18M users, DashPass is really popular because customers start saving money after just 3 orders. Customers using DashPass are more likely to stay loyal to DoorDash.

#3- Ghost Kitchens: DoorDash Kitchens give restaurants a place to prepare delivery-only food. This concept reduces overhead costs and provides flexibility to restaurants. Ghost kitchens also expanded food options for consumers, enhancing DoorDash’s appeal.

#4- Logistics: DoorDash’s focus on logistics plays a crucial role in its growth. The app has to optimize delivery routes and times to ensure fast and reliable service. By improving this technology, DoorDash provides a superior customer experience, attracting more users to the platform.

#5- Promos: DoorDash partners with restaurants to offer exciting discounts to customers. Their promos get customers addicted to good deals. Who would want to miss out on a 1¢ hamburger?

These innovations are designed to keep the customers, restaurants, and drivers happy.

💸 Making it a Marketplace

Like Airbnb and Uber, DoorDash is a marketplace. The only service DoorDash provides is a place for people to do business. They don’t own the restaurants or the delivery cars.

So why do restaurants and drivers choose to lose money to DoorDash instead of going rogue? It’s all about convenience and traffic.

  • For Users: DoorDash offers online ordering convenience, personalized AI recommendations, scheduled delivery, real-time order tracking, and a rating system. DoorDash makes ordering food easier than ever.

  • For Restaurants: DoorDash provides an extended customer base, efficient transportation, and cost-effective delivery solutions. Restaurants can reach more customers without managing the delivery service. This partnership benefits small restaurants looking to expand their reach and helps big restaurants reach their loyal customers.

  • For Drivers: DoorDash offers flexible working hours and competitive compensation, attracting individuals seeking flexible employment opportunities. Drivers choose which orders they want to pick up and get a small base pay from DoorDash. The company's focus on driver satisfaction ensures a reliable delivery network that benefits both consumers and restaurants.

By creating a marketplace that effectively serves users, delivery drivers, and restaurants, DoorDash has positioned itself as a vital part of modern food delivery.
